Homeopathy and Sunburn Relief - Homeopathy Healing

Homeopathy and relief for sunburn

11/06/2016Eileen Scullion

It goes without saying that due care must be exercised when exposed to sun.  Apart from the physiological benefits of ultra violet rays, they can be extremely harmful to the skin.

Sunburn can range from mild discomfort to sunstroke which requires urgent medical attention.

Homeopathic Remedies for Sunburn Healing Process

If you are unlucky enough to get burned here are a few suggested homeopathic remedies to consider to help the healing process.

Calendula: Use cream to soothe sunburn or when blisters have broken to promote new skin growth.

Belladonna: Violent heat, redness, throbbing, swelling and burning pain which comes and goes suddenly.  Worse for motion, heat, better for light covering.

Cantharis: Violent burning pain and blisters.  Pain is raw and smarting. Worse for touch and better for cold application.

Causticum: Serious burns with burning pain, blisters and weakness,

Cuprum: If sweating and cramps occur with sunburn.

Hypericum: Burns with blistering and shooting pains. Worse for cold and movement.

Urtica Urens: Stinging burning pains and violent itching. Use topically as well as internally. Worse for cold bathing.

If you do get burnt apply cream of Urtica, Calendula or Hypercal immediately and liberally to the affected area.   For more serious burns that begin to blister take Cantharis or Causticum.  Drink plenty to avoid dehydration.

Tips when in the sun

Limit your exposure to the sun for 20 minutes the first day and build up gradually.  Avoid the midday sun,  cover all exposed areas of the skin with a sunscreen appropriate for your skin type, reapply regularly especially if exercising and after swimming.   Swimmers beware, you can still get burned while in the water and remember don’t fall asleep in the sun.  Take the same precautions even on cloudy days since ultraviolet rays can filter through clouds.

Seek medical help immediately:

-If there is a fever over 104F/40C
-The pulse is very fast.
-The person is very confused.
-There is a headache, fever or nausea.
