Allium Cepa – Natural Remedy In Homeopathy Hayfever Treatment

Allium Cepa is a natural homeopathic remedy commonly used during the hayfever season or for those suffering from allergic rhinitis. It can also be used for colds, coughs and eye inflammations where the symptoms fit.
It is prepared from the common red onion.
It affects the mucous membranes of the upper respiratory tract.
In Homeopathy a remedy is prescribed for a person, not a disease. The key to successfully selecting a suitable remedy is being able to recognise important symptoms for the individual rather than the disease label and using this information to help distinguish one remedy picture from another.
Here are some indications for the Homeopathic remedy, Allium Cepa.
- Watery, streaming eyes (as from chopping onions).
- Eyes: red, smarting, and wants to rub. Swelling of lids and around the lids.
- Eye discharge is clear, profuse, bland and non-irritating.
- Clear, profuse burning discharge from nose that leaves sores on nostrils and upper lip.
- A sensation of rawness in the nose.
- The nose may stream only on one side.
- With congested headache, sneezing, sore throat and tickly cough.
- The person feels worse indoors and in a stuffy room and better in the fresh air.
- Worse in Spring and August.
Compare the Homeopathic Remedy Euphrasia for hayfever or allergic rhinitis: In Allium Cepa the nasal catarrh burns but the eye discharge doesn’t. In Euphrasia the discharge from the eyes burn and the nasal discharge doesn’t.
