Health Anxiety: Breaking Free From the Fear of Every Symptom - My Client’s Story
Living in constant fear of illness and sickness

Over the last few years, I’ve seen a major increase in people suffering from chronic health anxiety. Those that come to me are desperately seeking relief from constant worries and fears that consume their daily lives.
Before the “Big C,” struggling with anxiety was challenging enough, but health anxiety escalated to a whole new level for many. Even those who never considered themselves anxious about health suddenly found themselves caught in its grip.
- Googling symptoms late into the night, convinced every minor ache or pain might be something serious.
- Avoiding exercise or certain foods, afraid it could trigger harm.
- Steering clear of social gatherings or public places, worried about exposure to illness, or being too far from medical help.
This relentless cycle of fear and checking becomes isolating. It steals away the present moment, making it difficult to connect with others, let alone enjoy everyday life. Even ordinary moments like having breakfast with your family, going to work, or meeting a friend, can feel overwhelming and exhausting. Anxiety slowly starts to take hold, clouding your thoughts and making it hard to be present or find enjoyment in the simple things. Over time, it can leave you feeling trapped, frustrated, and even fearful of your own mind.
A client’s story: “It felt like being tortured by my own mind”
This was exactly the experience of one of my clients, a 38-year-old mum of three, whose anxiety and panic had taken over her life.
She described waking in the morning as though she was entering a black hole and she felt like she was really dark place. She had racing thoughts, catastrophic “what ifs,” and endless worries about her health.
- Any pain became a tumour in her mind.
- Every heart palpitation felt like an imminent heart attack.
- Each new symptom meant rushing to the doctor to make sure it wasn’t cancer or some other life threatening illness.
She said it felt like being tortured by her own mind. She was trapped in a battle between rational thought and the overwhelming dread of illness and death.
Despite this, she refused to resign herself to this as her “new normal.”
Looking beneath the surface
What stood out most for me about this woman was how well she managed to hide her extreme anxiety. Outwardly, she was functioning. Inside, she was distraught and overwhelmed by the repetitive thoughts.
What we uncovered during our conversation is that while the global health crisis intensified her fears, it didn’t create them. It simply shone a light on deeper roots that stretched back to childhood anxieties and the challenges she faced now as a mum.
This is often what I see with health anxiety: there’s usually more beneath the surface. And this is where homeopathy takes a different approach.
The homeopathic approach
In conventional medicine, the focus is usually on treating the symptoms. For my client, palpitations meant trips to the cardiologist. Headaches led to neurological exams. And, more often than not, medication is prescribed to ease anxiety.
Homeopathy, however, works differently. It takes a much wider view of health. My role is to listen deeply and explore your story, your triggers, your unique experiences, and the way anxiety shows up in your life.
In our first session together, we did a deep dive into her health history. This is where we begin to uncover the possible root causes of anxiety - past trauma, unresolved fears, or significant life changes that may have set things in motion.
Time and again, I find important links that conventional medicine may not consider relevant but are hugely significant from a holistic perspective.
For this client, I prescribed individually selected remedies:
- Acute remedies to support her in extreme moments of panic.
- Deeper-acting remedies to address the underlying root cause of her anxiety.
This is always the aim with homeopathy - to treat the whole person, not just temporarily mask the symptoms.
The results: calm, clarity, and confidence
The relief for her was rapid.
“Within two weeks my anxiety levels started to decrease, and I steadily improved.”
Four weeks later, she told me:
“I’m doing really good and I’ve noticed a huge change.
I feel calmer and I feel safe.
It’s like a fog has been lifted from my mind.
I’m not constantly fixated on a health issue that’s not real.
I’m not consumed by every ache or pain and I’m not rushing to the doctor for every little twinge.
I love this feeling. I’m living. I’m enjoying feeling normal.”
How incredible is that! In such a short time, she went from feeling tortured by her own mind to feeling calm, safe, and back to herself.
Finding freedom from health anxiety
When someone comes to me with health anxiety, I’m always curious to understand where those roots began, whether from childhood, trauma, grief, or life changes. Once we find those threads and begin to unravel them, the healing unfolds.
If you’re not sure where it all began, that’s okay, you don't have to come with the answers. In our conversations we gently piece the puzzle together and create a treatment plan that works for you.
Homeopathy doesn’t just aim to ease symptoms. It helps unhook those roots of fear, restoring confidence, calm, and freedom.
