Understanding Candida’s Impact on Fertility: Solutions for Conception

Candida overgrowth, commonly known as yeast infection, thrush or candidiasis, can profoundly affect fertility. This often-overlooked issue can prove challenging to treat. It may also linger unnoticed or persist quietly in the background and can significantly impact your ability to conceive.
(That’s why I always address this within my
Boost Your Fertility programme as its influence is often underestimated).
Let’s explore some of the ways candida overgrowth can impact fertility and look at the homeopathic solution for successful conception.
1. Disturbed vaginal pH imbalance
Candida overgrowth can disturb the natural pH balance of the vaginal environment. This disruption can create an unwelcoming and inhospitable setting for sperm, ultimately affecting their motility and viability.
2. Influence on cervical mucus and sperm path
Yeast infections can interfere with the stability of cervical mucus. Cervical mucus needs to be of a thin consistency to allow the sperm on its journey to reach the uterus. It also needs to provide the sperm with the necessary nourishment. An overgrowth of candida can alter the mucus consistency, making it hard and sticky, impeding sperm progress and depriving them of vital nutrients.
3. Fallopian tube obstruction: A roadblock for fertilisation
Candida overgrowth can lead to a build up of thick mucus in the fallopian tubes, hindering the natural progression towards successful conception. Think of it like a roadblock for the egg’s journey to fertilisation.
4. Microbial balance disrupted: Bacterial Vaginosis and Urinary tract infections
Neglected Candida overgrowth upsets the delicate balance between good and bad bacteria. This imbalance opens the door for an increase in harmful bacteria into the vaginal potentially leading to Bacterial Vaginosis. Other problems that can run concurrently are urinary tract issues like cystitis and kidney infections.* Unfortunately, these infections can take a toll on fertility too.
5. Sperm health and male fertility
Candida’s influence extends beyond women as male fertility can be affected as well. Research suggests that the presence of Candida in semen may negatively influence sperm quality and function.
6. Inflammation and immune response
An overgrowth of Candida triggers an inflammatory response in the body. This chronic inflammation is a stress to the body and therefore diverts the body’s resources away from the reproductive system – away from the delicate process of conception. You can read more about how stress can make it harder to conceive here.
7. Depletion of nutrients
Candida consumes essential nutrients in your body, potentially depriving reproductive organs of the nourishment they need. This depletion can impact egg quality and overall reproductive health.
8. Emotional strain and stress: Candida’s hidden influence
And finally, probably most importantly, candida can affect your relationship and your desire to have intercourse in the first place. All sorts of emotions are tied up with candida –
shame, embarrassment and
frustration to name but a few. This in turn creates stress. Stress impacts your fertility. (

Limitations of anti-fungals and antibotics
Conventional treatment for candida overgrowth often involves anti-fungals and antibiotics.
At first the anti-fungals might seem like the perfect solution and provide welcomed relief. But have you noticed that the symptoms often return? Sometimes worse than before?
It’s also important to note that while antibotics may provide relief, they don’t discriminate between good and bad bacteria. They clear everything entirely.
In time with repeated treatments the effectiveness wears off and candida can develop a resistance to treatment.
The holistic solution: Homeopathy’s role in Candida treatment
Homeopathy offers a comprehensive approach, delving into the underlying factors contributing to candida overgrowth. It delves into potential causes and your unique circumstances. Homeopathy works to enhance the immune system naturally, while restoring the body’s equilibrium to control candida growth. This approach not only boosts the body’s innate healing ability but also strengthens the digestive system, reinstating the natural balance.
One of my client shares her journey…
"I would recommend homeopathy to anyone dealing with hormonal issues who has not found any help in traditional medicine. After struggling with candida for three years and being recommended over the counter medicine that offered temporary relief, but no solution, I decided to turn to homeopathy. Working with Eileen was great as I felt like she had a very holistic approach and was interested in finding the root cause of the problem. It’s not an easy fix and it might take a while, but it will be worth it. After 6 months of working with Eileen, I am now candida-free."

* Among the women with bacterial vaginosis (BV), 75% also had UTI. Similarly, 46% and 13% of those with vaginal candidiasis and trichomoniasis respectively had concurrent UTI. Considering this strong association of UTI and vaginitis, women with either of these conditions should be tested for the other.
