Eleanor’s story has touched me deeply as I could see she had been suffering for such a long time.
Following a hysterectomy 22 years ago, Eleanor fell into a depression and experienced drenching hot flushes and night sweats daily ever since. These symptoms overtook her whole life.
The hot flushes were so intense her face would be coloured “beetroot red”, her clothes were soaking wet and her whole body felt on fire. She could experience up to 20 hot flushes a day – 10 during the day and 10 at night.
Eleanor felt highly embarrassed and anxious by what was happening both inside and outside her body. She became so self-conscious of people looking at her when she was experiencing her symptoms, so much so that she eventually stopped going out.
When she had a hot flush at home, she’d have to stand in front of the freezer to cool down. Or whilst at work, she would excuse herself to go to the bathroom. Eleanor felt mortified each time this happened.
Her sleep was disturbed. She slept with the lightest of duvets, a towel on her pillow and she’d wake up in the middle of the night with the perspiration running down her face, back and chest. She could also get headaches if the sweats were bad. Eleanor had a night-time routine which involved using an ice-cold cloth to cool down and a fan by her bedside. Because her pyjamas were soaked through, she’d often have to change her pyjamas during the night too.
Understandably, she felt moody with a lack of sleep and being in a state of constant discomfort. She was often snappy, flew off the handle regularly and when she’d cry, she just wanted to be left alone.
Taking HRT for 5 years sadly did nothing to help.
Before the hysterectomy and menopause, she described herself as outgoing, bubbly, always wanting to go out, keeping herself happily busy and meeting friends. Now Eleanor’s confidence had gone. She felt depressed and just wanted to sit in her pyjamas all day as she had simply no get up and go.
After only 2 weeks on her prescribed remedy, changes began to occur immediately and continued to improve daily.
Now 4 months later she shares:
“I feel so much better. It is life-changing the way I feel now.
It’s as if I am a different person. I’m back to how I was all those years ago before my hysterectomy.
I’m calmer, nothing bothers me as much now. I take everything in my stride.
I’m not as uptight and anxious. I just get on with it.
Before I wouldn’t go out as the sweat would pour out of me and I’d be drenched. I’d feel so embarrassed. Now it has stopped, I am out walking, shopping and enjoy life without having to worry!”
