Post lockdown anxiety – ease into the new norm with homeopathy

Post Lockdown Anxiety – Ease Into The New Norm With Homeopathy

18/06/2021Eileen Scullion

Feeling uneasy about lockdown easing?

Just as life starts opening up, some of us may feel like shutting down.

Not everyone relishes the prospect of getting back out in the world. Whilst some people feel excited, others feel anxious as the ‘new normal’ evolves.

The national charity, Anxiety UK, has reported on anxieties regarding post lockdown life. These anxieties include socialising, using public transport and being in busy environments such as shopping centres.  This has been the experience for many of my clients. They have shared their worries about health and the opening up of society.

Before we focus on the homeopathic approach to how we can support you through this transition, let’s reflect on how we have been affected by recent global events.

The unpredictable nature of life

Our world has been well and truly rocked. We are navigating uncertain times. The unpredictability has left many people feeling powerless, frustrated and confused. Gone are the more relaxed days of lockdown. Now is a time of rapid change and getting back into a different routine.

The thought of these changes has left some feeling insecure, anxious, and vulnerable. But it is important to recover our quality of life.

How are people feeling?

My clients have shared many of their concerns. Some of these include:

  • Getting back into the workplace
  • Maintaining the improved work-life balance created during lockdown
  • Being amongst crowds and attending social events
  • Adapting to the faster pace of life again
  • Contracting illness or loved ones getting sick

Some anxieties may have got worse. Especially when they are related to health or social situations.

But were there any benefits to lockdown?

Lockdown – a slower pace and a fresh perspective

During the lockdown, our experiences differed widely. Taking a positive view enabled us to focus on ourselves. The slower pace of life brought opportunities previously denied to us. These included:

  • The discovery of new hobbies such as crafts or cooking
  • Spending quality time as a family unit
  • The opportunity to reflect on life and make healthier choices

This pause allowed time to reassess our priorities. The more relaxed pace suited some of us and pre-existing anxiety symptoms may have lessened.

The return to a faster pace of life

Following a lockdown, the thought of returning to how things were has created anxiety for some. The change of routine and structure can cause apprehension and overwhelm. Waking up early enough to complete everyday tasks feels too much. Getting back on track with the school run, housekeeping and work is exhausting. Juggling kids, home life, and work have always been tough. But we have had time to reflect on this and change the way our lives look.

Anxiety symptoms that might be experienced.

Those previously suffering from anxiety, particularly health or social anxiety, may have found their symptoms increased. Symptoms may include:

  •  a racing heartbeat
  •  clammy hands
  •  irritability
  •  difficulty concentrating
  •  nausea and digestive upsets
  •  sleep issues

The thought of meeting up with others might cause feelings of dread. However, humans are social beings. We need each other, even though we may not feel like it. When we retreat into our homes, we are cut off from the benefits of society such as communication and connection.

It is understandable to feel anxious. Seeking help is important when our lives are negatively impacted. To tackle these feelings of discomfort and relieve them naturally, homeopathy can help.

The natural way to relieve anxiety using Homeopathy Post lockdown anxiety - ease into the new norm with homeopathy

The good news is homeopathy provides the tools needed to feel confident and in control.

Homeopathy offers:

  •    Natural, non-invasive solutions to relieve anxiety
  •    Remedies to help with distressing emotions or anxious thoughts
  •    Treatment to support physical and mental health
  •    Immunity boosting benefits
  •    Relief from fear and anxiety
  •    Increased confidence and empowerment

I work closely with clients to discover which remedy best matches the symptoms experienced. It is not a case of just treating these symptoms, but of finding the root cause. In homeopathy, we treat the whole person and take a holistic approach to health. I want to understand how clients are experiencing life now, during the pandemic, as well as in the past.

There are thousands of possible remedies beneficial for anxiety. I’d like to share five in particular to explain the potential remedies I might consider using in a treatment plan.

Top 5 anxiety remedies

1. Aconite (Acon)

Aconite is useful for periods of acute anxiety and panic.

The feeling of anxiety is intense and the onset is sudden. This fear or panic overtakes rapidly and without warning. In this heightened state of distress, there is a fear you might actually die. Physical symptoms include palpitations, shortness of breath, restlessness, flushing, and feeling faint. This remedy is often prescribed for overwhelming fear with severe anxiety following trauma or after a shock.

2. Argentum Nitricum (Arg-n)

This remedy may be prescribed for anticipatory anxiety.

The person feels great uncertainty about many things in life and dreads the future. A repetitive focus on the ‘what ifs’ creates confusion and indecision. There are often digestive issues such as bloating, diarrhea, belching, and flatulence. Sleep is also affected due to the constant worry of upcoming events or situations. They are hurried and restless, and the feeling in their presence is that of a sense of great urgency. There is a fear of being trapped with panic when no exit is seen. Anxiety increases before appointments or important events. When a person nervously anticipates the future, Argentum Nitricum could potentially provide relief.

3. Arsenicum Album (Ars)

This remedy is used for extreme anxiety about health and disease.

This person worries about their own health and also that loved ones are at risk from illness. They might need order in their lives to cope or describe themselves as a perfectionist. Unexpected events and challenges throw them off track and they fear losing control. Disorder creates feelings of restlessness. These people need the company and reassurance of others and don’t like being alone. For these concerns, Arsenicum Album could potentially be the remedy of choice in a treatment plan.

4. Phosphorus (Phos)

Phosphorus helps with intense, excitable nerves.

The person feels anxious regarding health and experiences feelings of isolation when alone. Naturally kind, sensitive, and considerate, they feel great sympathy towards others. They may carry the load of other people’s problems. This overload of emotion can lead to indifference and exhaustion. They often worry about other people and absorb this collective anxiety. They enjoy the company and love physical contact and touch. Physically, there is a tendency to contract respiratory conditions such as coughs and colds. They may experience nosebleeds or feel faint when they don’t eat. If these conditions are presented, Phosphorus is a remedy that may be considered.

5. Calcarea Carbonica (Calc Carb)

This remedy assists those with deep anxieties about their health.

A worrier by nature, fears include catching infections, becoming ill, family becoming unwell, security, and the future. They crave security and routine, preferring familiarity over change. As the news can often be overwhelming, they tend to avoid it to prevent further upset or stress.  For fears of the unknown and a need for safety and routine, Calcarea Carbonica might be the best choice of remedy.

Individual and personalized treatment plan

Homeopathy isn’t a case of one size fits all. It is a holistic treatment that focuses on the whole person. I work with my clients to understand their needs and devise a plan specific to them. This includes physical, mental, and emotional health. I also look at family history and any stress in your life, along with a person’s general nature and health.

Post lockdown anxiety doesn’t need to be a barrier to enjoying life. We all deserve to be vibrant and grounded to embrace life from a positive perspective.

It’s a cliché but there’s nothing more certain than change. Book a consultation now and look forward to navigating life with confidence and ease.
