How to administer Homeopathic remedies in first aid situations

How to administer homeopathic remedies in first aid situations

To prescribe a homeopathic remedy successfully you need to follow 2 homeopathic laws.

1. Law of Similars

This means matching the symptoms of an illness to the symptom picture of the remedy.

2. Law of Minimum Dose

Use as little remedy as possible to stimulate the body’s own healing response.

Here are some basic rules on deciding the dose:

Less is more.  The minimum dose that can achieve a cure is always best.
Judge the urgency of the situation.  The more intense, the more frequent the dose.
Wait for a response.
With improvement increase the gap between doses.
Stop altogether when there is definite improvement
Repeat as needed if the person relapses and becomes worse again.
If you have given 5 doses without improvement, the remedy does not fit the symptoms and you need a different remedy.

NB: Use your instincts and common sense. Always seek urgent medical assistance for serious and urgent conditions.

If you are worried at all or in any doubt, seek help – you may wish to give the appropriate remedy while waiting for help to arrive.

For less serious conditions seek professional help if there is no improvement.

Very serious – urgent
The attack is sudden, immediate or intense onset accompanied by serious pain.
Give one dose every 5-30 minutes, stop on improvement, repeat as needed.  Change the remedy if the symptom picture changes.  For example injuries, wounds, bites/stings.

 Serious
The complaint comes on suddenly but is less intense and painful.
Give one dose every 1-2 hours.
Eg:  Food poisoning, shock, sunburn

Less serious
The complaint comes on less vigorously and progresses more gradually.
Give one dose every 4-8 hours or 3-4 times per day.
Eg, second phase of injury – after pains of bruising.

How to handle the remedies

Handle the homeopathic remedies as little as possible.
Shake one pill into the lid of the bottle and put into the palm of hand of person taking the remedy.  Allow to dissolve under the tongue.
Take remedies in a clean mouth free from food or drink.
Do not wash the pill down with water.

For children you can crush and/or dissolve remedies in water for sipping or administering with spoon.
