10 Natural Tips for Hayfever & Allergy Sufferers

Hayfever or allergies occur when the immune system overreacts to harmless triggers.
The best time to take action for hayfever is outside of season so you can feel the benefits in spring or summer. However if your symptoms have kicked in, as well as
homeopathy remedies selected specifically to your needs, here are 10 natural tips you can use to help boost your immune system too.
- Vitamin C is the most important anti-allergy vitamin. It promotes a strong immune system, immediately calms down allergic reactions and is also anti-inflammatory. Increase your vitamin C intake through food by eating plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables.
- Quercetin is a potent antioxidant-rich in antihistamine properties and a powerful immune booster. It also enhances the body’s absorption of Vitamin C. Increase your intake of blackberries, peppers, onions, apples, tomatoes and red grapes.
- I ntroduce pineapple into your diet as it is a rich source of Bromelain, an enzyme that has anti-inflammatory and anti-swelling properties which can help improve nasal drainage. It also enhances the efficacy of Quercetin.
- Boost your immune system with probiotic foods such as live-cultured natural yoghurts, kefir, sauerkraut, kombucha and kimchi. Also include prebiotics foods which feed the good bacteria in your gut such as asparagus, onion, garlic, artichokes, leeks and flaxseed.
- Reduce dairy products if you suffer from a blocked or runny nose as they encourage mucus production. Use alternatives such as oat milk or almond milk and replace with other sources of calcium and protein such as nuts, seeds, green leafy vegetables and fortified soya products.
- Reduce histamine producing foods such as wine, cheese and chocolates.
- Increase Omega 3 fatty acids in your diet. These are one of nature’s best ways to help reduce the inflammation of mucus membranes. These are found in fish such as wild or organic salmon, mackerel, herring, sardines, fresh tuna, anchovies. Also include flaxseed, hempseed, pumpkin seed, soya and walnuts in your diet.
- Flush your system of toxins . Drink lots of water – at least 1.5 – 2 litres and include herbal teas such as nettle, ginger and chamomile which are rich in anti-histamine properties.
- Buy organic if you can . Support your immune system with foods that are free from pesticides, synthetic fertilisers, antibiotics and bio-engineered ingredients.
- Eat local honey . It is thought that one teaspoon a day of locally produced honey dissolved in warm water can help gradually build up a natural resistance.
